Stony Brook Election Results

Sen. Barack Obama dominated the polls at Stony Brook University Tuesday night, garnering more than 77 percent of the popular vote.

Obama, the democratic nominee for president swept 1,778 of the 2,324 ballots cast at the polling station. Obama’s landslide win mirrors the results of the primaries held at the university in February, when he collected 56 percent of the total number of votes.

Placed within an elegant ballroom decorated abundantly with blue and white balloons, a quiet evening began picking up for local Democrats at the Mariott hotel in Islandia, NY.

Election propaganda adorned the walls of the large room as eager guests and politicians watched two large projection screens with the latest updates.

Although the crowd started the night very quiet and calm, the number of guests picked up as the night moved on, and with it enthusiasm picked up as well.

With the election one day away, members of political clubs at Stony Brook University can soon unwind after a busy semester mounting grassroots campaigns on and off campus.

This semester the College Democrats on campus worked the phones, knocked on thousands of doors and even crossed state lines to drum up votes for national and local politicians.
