NBC News Projects Ohio For Obama

By Mike Kelly

NBC News is projecting the state of Ohio for Obama.

In 2004, George W. Bush defeated John Kerry in a tight race for the state. It was generally viewed as one of the most important battleground states of the 2008 election.

No Republican has ever won the presidency without winning the state of Ohio.

GOP Loses Third U.S. Senate Seat

By Mike Kelly

CNN is projecting Elizabeth Dole, the incumbent Republican from North Carolina, will lose her Senate seat to Democratic contender Kay Hagan.

This is the third seat the GOP has lost in the Senate. John Sununu's seat in New Hampshire and the retiring John Warner's seat in Virginia were the other two.

Hispanic Vote In Fla. Looks Good for O

Early exit polls show that Obama is winning the Hispanic vote in Florida. Florida's Hispanic vote may go for Obama 55-44. Bush won 56% of the Hispanic vote in 2004. Cubans make up a large proportion of the Hispanic vote in Florida and they are generally more conservative voters. Hispanic voters around the country generally vote Democratic.

McCain takes Georgia

A close race in Georgia had McCain worried but in the end one of Obama's dream states stayed red.

Obama kept it close because African-American turnout increased from 25% of the overall electorate in 2004, to 30% tonight.

Many Options For Election Night Parties

By Josh Seidman

After Stony Brook University’s students finished choosing who best represented their needs at the local, state and national level, they are faced with another equally important decision—where they should go to watch the election results.

The school and surrounding areas offered students a plethora of viewing options including local bars, the University Café and a party hosted by the University College Democrats.

New Hampshire Hurts

New Hampshire goes for Obama. Obviously the night isn't looking good for McCain but this state has sentimental value for him. He won in 2000 in the primary against George W. Bush and he came back in the 2008 primary with a victory there. The Granite state has deserted him.

NBC News Gives PA to Obama

By Mike Kelly

NBC News is projecting an Obama victory in Pennsylvania. The state carries 21 electoral votes.

The news spells trouble for the McCain campaign. In the last week before the election, McCain poured countless resources into Pennsylvania. Many Republican strategists have said that McCain's most likely scenario for victory was through Pennsylvania.
